Maria Parham Health Emergency Department Renovation Underway to Enhance Behavioral Health Care
March 31, 2025

The Emergency Department (ED) renovation project at Maria Parham Health is officially underway. Construction contractors barricaded part of the ED, and demolition has commenced as the hospital works to transform its emergency care facilities. The renovation, which began on March 17, 2025, aims to improve services for vulnerable populations in Vance and Franklin counties, with a particular focus on enhancing care for individuals facing behavioral health challenges—a growing need in the region.
Key Highlights of the Renovation:
- The renovation will create dedicated spaces within the Emergency Department to address the specific needs of behavioral health and mental health patients. These spaces will provide a more supportive environment for patients and staff, while improving overall hospital efficiency.
- Temporary modifications have been made to the Maria Parham main lobby to facilitate continued patient care during construction. This includes the creation of dedicated areas for waiting, triage, registration, and other essential services to ensure the seamless flow of patient care.
- While the front portion of the Emergency Department will be closed for the renovation, the hospital’s main lobby will temporarily serve as the intake, registration, and emergency care area for patients arriving via personal vehicle.
- The renovation is expected to take approximately 16 weeks, with completion anticipated in July 2025.
What You Need to Know:
- During the renovation, emergency patients arriving by personal vehicle are directed to the main entrance for registration, triage, and care.
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS) entry will remain unaffected and continue as usual.
- Radiology patients are directed to the main entrance for registration, and they will be guided to a separate waiting area for their services.
- Patients seeking other services, including Lab, Outpatient Surgery, Inpatient Rehab, and General Visitation, should use the Heart & Vascular Center entrance, located to the right of the hospital’s main entrance.
- Signage is posted in front of the hospital to provide additional guidance and help patients navigate the campus during the renovation.
This important project is made possible by funding allocated to Maria Parham Health in October 2023 as part of a joint initiative led by the Vance County District Attorney’s Office, Granville Vance Public Health, the Vance County Board of Commissioners, and the North Carolina General Assembly. The funding reflects the region's strong commitment to improving mental health treatment services and will significantly benefit the community by providing more effective and compassionate care for behavioral health patients.
"We are excited about this important renovation that will better serve the needs of our community," said Bert Beard, CEO of Maria Parham Health. "The changes will help us provide the highest level of care to those who need it most, and we are grateful for the support of our partners and the local community in making this project a reality."
Maria Parham Health encourages the public to stay informed about the renovation's progress. Updates will be available on the hospital’s official Facebook page and through local news outlets.
Maria Parham Health remains dedicated to delivering the highest standards of care, safety, and patient satisfaction throughout this renovation process, ensuring that patients continue to receive the care they need during this important transformation.
