Maria Parham Health Begins Construction of Patient Care Areas in Preparation for Emergency Department Renovation
February 10, 2025

Maria Parham Health is excited to announce the start of the first phase of a renovation project designed to transform its Emergency Department (ED) to better serve vulnerable populations in Vance and Franklin counties. This significant renovation, set to begin on March 3, 2025, will focus on improving care for individuals facing behavioral health challenges.
The initial steps of the project are already underway, as Maria Parham’s Facilities teams are working diligently to prepare the main lobby area for use as a temporary emergency care area. New flooring is being installed, and temporary walls are being erected to create space for waiting areas, triage zones, registration desks, and other necessary areas to support patient flow during the renovation. The front portion of the existing Emergency Department will be temporarily closed during the renovation, and these temporary areas in the hospital’s main lobby will ensure that patient care continues seamlessly during construction.
Phase One of the renovations is expected to last approximately 16 weeks, beginning March 3, 2025. During this time, emergency patients arriving at the hospital by their own means will be directed to the main Maria Parham entrance for registration, triage, and care. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) entry will remain unaffected throughout the renovation.
This project is made possible through funds allocated to Maria Parham Health in October 2023 as part of a collaborative effort between the Vance County District Attorney’s Office, Granville Vance Public Health, the Vance County Board of Commissioners, and the North Carolina General Assembly. This funding reflects the community’s commitment to improving mental health and substance abuse treatment services in the region.
The renovation will include the creation of designated spaces within the Emergency Department specifically designed to meet the needs of behavioral health and mental health patients. These new areas will foster safer, more effective care environments, reducing the risk of incidents and enhancing the hospital’s overall efficiency. In addition to improving care for patients, these changes will create a safer environment for both staff and visitors.
“We are thrilled to begin this transformative project that will improve the quality of care for some of our most vulnerable community members,” said Bert Beard, Chief Executive Officer of Maria Parham Health. “The renovation will allow us to provide specialized spaces for individuals in behavioral health crises, ultimately improving the care of all our patients. This investment is an important step toward better meeting the needs of our community.”
